Sydney's first hit of heat

Graeme Brittain, Saturday October 8, 2016 - 12:32 AEDT

It felt like summer on Friday, with the heat set to return shortly.

Temperatures exceeded 30 degrees across most of Sydney on Friday for the first time since April. The highest temperature was 31.4 degrees, recorded at the airport. This is well above the seasonal average, but not unusual for the time of year.

On Saturday, cloud and brisk southerlies will limit temperatures to the low twenties. However, Monday will see a resurgence of the heat, as a hot air mass is directed over the region, ahead of a strong cold change arriving during the evening. Temperatures on Monday are expected to exceed those observed yesterday.

Make sure to slap on the sunscreen if you are heading to the beach, as the UV index will be very high from tomorrow.
