Sydney's Scorching Summer Continues

Records tumbled in January with Sydney recording its hottest month on record. Summer shows no signs of slowing down in February with another record set to be broken today.
So far this summer Sydney has notched up nine days of 35 degrees and over, equal to the record set in the summer of 1895/96. On Sunday the Harbour City is set to roast once again. Those in the west will have to endure another day in excess of 40 degrees while the city itself is expecting a top of 38. Should the city warm past 35, the century-long record will be broken and the 2016/17 summer will go down in another record book. With over three weeks of summer remaining, this impressive total may still be added to.
It's not just oppressive daytime temperatures that have plagued Sydney this summer. Saturday night only briefly cooled to 26.6 degrees, the warmest February night in six years. Between 1-2am the temperature actually rose by two degrees as strengthening northwesterly winds dragged a hotter airmass into the city.
For those who are finding the heat a bit tiresome, there is some relief on the way. Although Monday will be another hot day (but a few degrees cooler than Sunday), a southerly change will bring a cool blast later in the afternoon and bring a couple of milder days before the heat starts to build again from Thursday.
