Tasmania flood threat

Tasmania is on flood watch once again as a complex low pressure system spreads rain across the state during the next 24 hours.
This latest burst of heavy rain comes at the end of a string of unusually wet months, which included a record-breaking flood event during June. This event helped the state experienced its wettest four-month period on record from May to August.
Thanks to this recent rainfall, today's bout of wet weather will be running straight into river systems instead of soaking into the ground, increasing the risk of flooding.
Northern and eastern districts will be hardest hit today and on Friday morning, where accumulated totals are expected to be in the range of 60-80mm. This is likely to cause moderate flooding in the North Esk, South Esk and Macquarie Rivers, where warnings have been issued.
A flood watch is also in place for all districts and a severe weather warning was issued this afternoon for damaging winds and heavy rainfall across the state's northern and eastern districts.
Rain and wind will ease on Friday although lighter showers will continue to fall at times into the weekend.
