Tropical Cyclone Joyce no more

Ex - Tropical Cyclone Joyce may not be cyclone strength anymore but the system still packs a punch.

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Joyce, as the name now suggests, is no longer at cyclone intensity, having been downgraded to a tropical low early on Saturday morning. The tropical cyclone warning zone that stretched from Pardoo Roadhouse to De Grey, and inland parts of the northeast Pilbara including Marble Bar has now been cancelled.

Although the system is no longer of tropical cyclone intensity, damaging wind gusts greater than 100km/h and heavy rainfall of 50-100mm are still expected. A severe weather warning for still in effect for Pilbara and parts of Kimberley, Gascoyne and North Interior.

The system is expected to continue tracking southwest across the Pilbara into the Gascoyne region later this evening, briefly making its way across far northern parts of the Central West before crossing back over the coastline to open water. Those along the west coast concerned about the system re-intensifying once it is back over water need not worry, as the waters are much too cool for it to regain strength.

That said, the system is still expected to bring significant rainfall to WA's southwest with 40-80mm of rainfall possible for Perth between midnight Saturday and midnight Monday, most of this falling on Monday. Lingering showers should persist from Tuesday to Thursday before high pressure looks to build again, bringing a return to more settled conditions.
