Warm night for inland parts of NSW and VIC

Overnight temperatures lingered more than ten degrees above average for inland parts of New South Wales and Victoria.

Rural parts of Victoria and New South Wales endured an unseasonably warm night last night as cloud and warm air ahead of a trough combined.

Many locations across the New South Wales Slopes and Plains and Riverina districts remained over ten degrees above average for this time of the year. Condobolin and Cobar failed to fall below 21 degrees overnight, while Narrandera suffered a similar fate with the mercury lingering around 20 degrees.

Condobolin's 21.8 degree minimum was a hefty 12.5 degree above the April average.

Across the border it was a similar story with Rutherglen lingering 11.6 degrees above average with a minimum temperature of 18.6 degrees. Wangaratta fell to only 17.2 degrees making it the warmest night in a month for both locations.

Despite the temperature remaining so far from average, it has only been about two weeks since Cobar and Condobolin has had such a warm night. It is fairly typical to see a wide contrast in temperatures at this time of the year. Low pressure troughs remain fairly regular drawing warm air from Central Australia to the southeast, while cold fronts are also becoming more prevalent bringing notable drops in temperatures.

The next strong front is due to cross the nation's southeast on Monday bringing a distinct drop in temperatures, most prominent in the south.
