Warm night in Melbourne

Ben Domensino, Thursday October 5, 2017 - 09:58 AEDT

Meblurnians just slept through their balmiest night in six months.

Cloud cover and northerly winds kept the temperature well above average in Melbourne last night. The mercury reached a low point of 16.4 degrees at 8:12pm, which is the city's highest minimum since April.

The night became even warmer as northerly winds picked up from around 10pm, pushing the mercury to around 19 degrees by midnight.

The city had already reached 19.8 degrees by 7:20am today, which is about 10 degrees above average for an October morning. This even eclipses Melbourne's average maximum temperature of 19.7 degrees at this time of year.

Melbourne should reach the low twenties today before a cooler southwesterly change arrives in the city this afternoon.

Tonight will feel more typical for this time of year in the wake of the change and tomorrow's forecast top of 16 degrees would make Friday cooler than last night.
