Warmer, drier than usual weather on the horizon

Warmer and drier than usual weather is expected to be on the cards for most of Australia between August and October, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

The outlook for the next three months is largely being driven by a developing positive Indian Ocean Dipole, a climate pattern that usually causes below average rain and above average temperature in parts of Australia during winter and spring.

The Pacific Ocean is expected to remain in a neutral phase during the coming months, meaning neither El Nino or La Nina will be in place.

Days are likely to be warmer than usual for almost all of Australia when averaged over the next three months, while overnight minimums are predicted to be close to, or warmer than average.

Rainfall is tipped to be near-to-below average around the country as well, likely adding more pressure in drought-weary parts of the country.

The dry and warm weather predicted during the coming months is also likely to increase the early-season bushfire threat in some parts of Australia.
