Weekend beach weather and where to find it in NSW

Jacobus Cronje, Wednesday May 18, 2016 - 11:28 AEST

If you were wondering if you should pack away the swimmers and beach towels for good this weekend, perhaps it's time to give the beach one final go. At least for some locations along the New South Wales coast.

Considering the entire stretch of NSW coast, despite the season, it looks like some locations could have some decent beach weather on Saturday and Sunday.

Relatively clear skies, mild to warm temperatures and not-too-windy conditions have been forecast for beach locations between Manly and Port Macquarie for this Saturday. Sydney beaches south of the harbour bridge could see more windy northeasterly winds and cloudier skies developing, keeping temperatures a bit too low for even the most enthusiastic beach goer.

Conditions are likely to be a bit more unsettled north of Newcastle, where the odd shower is likely to bring a few drops of rain, and more cloudy conditions throughout the weekend.

Sunday should be generally more windy and cloudy north of Sydney, but could see conditions clearing slightly and heating up a couple of degrees along the Illawarra Coast, making it the better beach day for that part of the state.

In terms of expected conditions into next week for the NSW coast, it's unlikely that temperatures will be as high as they will be for the next couple of days. This is especially true from next week Tuesday, in the wake of a cold front set to sweep to the south of the state on Monday.

While probably not offering the perfect conditions, at least there are a couple of locations where one could go this weekend, in order to pretend that our balmy autumn thus far is not quite over yet.
