Wet start to April after a record-breaking March for Lord Howe Island

Jacobus Cronje, Sunday April 16, 2017 - 12:32 AEST

Following a very wet March, Lord Howe Island received another good douse of rain during the first week of April 2017.

Rain gauges picked up 250.6mm last month, the wettest March in 16 years and over five times more than what fell in March 2016.

The island has already received 198.6mm of rainfall this month, well above the average 133.8mm for April and the 131.0mm that fell during April 2016.

Most of the rain that has fallen in the last two months was due to low pressure systems in the vicinity of the island. It has also rained at least 1mm a day for most of the month so far.

While no significant rainfall is expected during the next week under the influence of a high pressure system, it's likely that most days will see at least a few drops for the remainder of the month.
