Wet week for NSW

Three rain-bearing systems will traverse New South Wales within the next seven days, rounding out a bumper May.

Just over two weeks ago most of the state was drenched by the nationwide rain event, with many western areas exceeding their May average in one hit. Unfortunately northeastern NSW largely missed out, continuing a drier-than-normal run that began in February.

Late on Wednesday, a state-wide rain event will arrive courtesy of a moisture-laden low pressure trough. It will bring rain to virtually the entire state. The best rain will fall along the Great Dividing Range and in the Riverina.

Rain will even spread into the northeast of the state, with widespread falls of 5-15mm in the Northwest Slopes and Plains.

Unfortunately for those on the east of the ranges, rain will again be quite light and patchy, as with all recent rain events.

Those who are looking for follow-up may not have to wait long as a cut-off low will progress across the south and east of the state during Friday night and Saturday with many areas seeing another 5mm.

A final rain-bearing system is a good chance to follow a similar track on Tuesday, with the best rain in the south and along the ranges.

Sadly for those in the northeast, the second and third systems for the week are unlikely to bring any significant rain, meaning that May will be the fourth month in a row with near-or below-average rain across the Northern Rivers, Northern Tablelands, Mid North Coast and North West Slopes and Plains.
