What's in store for the weekends sports?

Thomas Hough, Saturday September 29, 2018 - 11:48 AEST

As the long weekend kicks off, many are keeping a close eye on what the weather holds for today's AFL grand final and tomorrows NRL grand final.

A jumper or two may be needed for those heading to the AFL grand final in Melbourne today, with cool conditions persisting in the wake of a cold front that moved through yesterday.

Temperatures not are expected to climb higher than the low-to-mid-teens with the days maximum occurring around early afternoon. Windchill should be minimal with breezy southwesterly winds easing by the bounce. Umbrellas can be left at home with partly cloudy skies and no rain.

Conditions for tomorrow's NRL grand final in Homebush don't look to dissimilar. Although the day will be a few degrees warmer, with a maximum in the mid-to-high teens, temperatures will be closer to the low-teens by kick-off at 7.20pm.

Skies will remain mostly clear through the afternoon and into evening, so although raincoats can be left behind, with temperatures expected to cool to around 10 degrees as the match finishes, a jacket of some sort may be needed.
