Winds whip up western Sydney fire

An out of control fire in western Sydney threatens homes as it sends smoke across the city.
On Sunday afternoon hot, dry and gusty winds were fueling a fire in Londonderry. Fire fighters were quick on the scene, with people on the ground combined with planes and helicopters.
The afternoon weather conditions are very dangerous, with wind gusts reaching up to 70km/h as temperatures reach 30 degrees and relative humidity is near 20 percent.
Thankfully this evening winds will abate and the temperature will drop, giving firefighters a much better chance to protect homes and get the fire under control.
Tomorrow, winds will turn cooler southerly, with the chance of a few afternoon and evening showers. Thankfully conditions will remain fairly mild for the rest of the working week.
These conditions are not quite as fierce and dangerous as it can be in spring and summer. This fire, and others like it, act as a warning for Australians to be fire ready.
