Wintry weather across the nation

Cold snap across the nation reminds Australians we do have a winter.

The average minimum temperature across all state capitals this morning was a chilly 6.5 degrees. Canberra chilled to minus five degrees while Darwin dragged the average way up as it remained more than 14 degrees warmer than the other capitals at 24 degrees.

Sydney cooled to 5.6 degrees overnight, its coldest June minimum in six years. Brisbane had its coldest June night in two years cooling to 6.6 degrees.

Perth and Melbourne chilled to 3.4 degrees and 3.0 degrees the coldest minimum since winter last year.

Hobart has now had three consecutive minimums below or equal to five degrees. Both Adelaide and Hobart had colder minimum temperatures earlier this month.

Further ahead, a cold front will make its way across the southeast on Sunday evening and into Monday morning bringing a cold day on Monday before a broad high pressure system builds on Tuesday allowing temperatures to slowly crawl a few degrees above average.
