Cloud forming over western and southern NSW with a trough is generating showers and the odd storm. High cloud in the northeast and over central parts is not bringing rain.

Hottest start to year in decades for west coast

14:51 AEDT Perth days for the first half of January are averaging the hottest since 1962.  Only two days this month so far have stayed below 30 degrees - and then barely - pushing the average maximum for the month so far up to 33.6 degrees, 2.5 degrees above average.
