A cold pool of air is lingering over southeastern Australia, but it's chilly tentacles are being felt a little further north. Warm Queensland isn't so hot right now, undergoing a run of well below average, frosty nights, followed by sunny days.

The northern Queensland coast, between Cairns and Townsville is likely to see 25 to 50 mm rain over the course of just a day or two, with local falls ranging from 50 to 75 mm. Most of this is likely to fall on Tuesday.

There are two snow systems gearing up ready to cross the Australian Alps. The first one arrives on Sunday, and the second, potentially bigger one, hits on Monday to Wednesday next week.

A quarter of Victoria recorded more than 50mm of rain on the long weekend. The majority of southeastern Australia recorded more than 25mm of rain.
