Melbourne feeling the change of seasons

Today is the start of a very chilly week for Melbourne.

Gusty southerlies, showers and a cold airmass in the wake of a front is causing chilly conditions throughout Melbourne today. With the temperatures only making the mid-teens, today will be one of the coldest days since spring. Although the showers are likely to become more patchy throughout the day and a glimpse of blue skies is possible, the mercury won't rise too much as the Antarctic airmass takes residence.

A pool of cold air will sit over the state for a few days and with the stagnant weather pattern we are about to enter in, it will remain for a few days longer than usual until it breaks down. Maximum temperatures for the next week are forecast to average 16-17 degrees, which would make it the coldest April week in six years.

It will take until Thursday for Melbourne to reach near-average daytime temperatures, climbing closer to the 20 degree mark. Unfortunately the temperatures will come crashing down as another cold and gusty front sweeps through the state during Friday, bringing another round of cold, wet windy weather.
