A windy week for southern Australia

A series of low pressure systems will lead a blustery week for those living in the south of the country this week.

Frequent fronts and troughs moving across the Great Australian Bight over the next week will generate fairly persistent gusty conditions, with one front moving in quickly behind the previous one.

At this point in time the windiest time of the week looks to be Tuesday 7th going into Wednesday 8th as the second in the succession of fronts moves through. This system looks to bring wind gusts of up to 120km/h for Kangaroo Island and Neptune Island and 70-95km/h over remaining coasts of SA. As these winds peak in the afternoon into the evening, the system will continue east, where parts of the VIC coasts of South West and Central will see gusts of up to 85-100km/h in the early morning.

Although in the days preceding this winds don't look to reach quite that strong, it will still remain very gusty, with a severe weather warning currently in effect for parts of VIC and and strong wind warning in place for parts of SA.

These fronts will also be accompanied by frequent showers, which combined with thick cloud will lead to some cool days to come. At this stage, both Adelaide and Melbourne look to see there maximum temperatures peak in only the low to mid teens on Monday and Tuesday.

Warmth isn't far away however, with clearer skies and above average temperatures forecast for Thursday.
