Brisbane's warm start to August

Sam Brown, Saturday August 2, 2014 - 12:22 AEST

Temperatures reached up to 28.5 degrees in Brisbane yesterday, marking a very warm start to August and the hottest August day since 2009.

Warm westerly winds ahead of a cold front filtered over the city, allowing temperatures to soar into the high 20's around four O'clock yesterday afternoon.

However, cool air in the wake of the front is helping keep the temperatures down to the low twenties for much of the next week. Clearing skies will make tomorrow morning quite cold, dropping to a chilly eight degrees.

Westerly winds may tend more south potentially directing a few clouds and the odd shower over the city from tomorrow. Clouds are likely to build with onshore winds limiting overnight temperatures to near the August average of 10.5 degrees.
