Chilly day in WA

After a strong cold front moved through overnight, southern parts of Western Australia are feeling winters sting.

Temperatures will struggle to reach the mid-teens this weekend over large parts of southern WA with only brief patches of sun between chilly showers.

Perth's forecast maximum of 15 degrees would make it the coldest day since early June. At 11am on Saturday, the air temperature of 14 degrees felt more like 8 degrees in the crisp southwesterly winds.

Further south, Albany's predicted maximum of 12 degrees would be its coldest day since July 2017. With more frequent showers and stronger winds than Perth, it will feel more like 5 degrees in the "heat" of the day.

As the cold air moves further west this weekend, Esperance is only expected to reach 14 on Saturday and 13 on Sunday. This would be the coldest pair of days the city has seen in 2 years.

Further inland, Kalgoorlie's is only expected to reach a top of 12 degrees on Sunday, a substantial 7 degrees below the August average.

This cold front will move west from Monday and allow for the days to warm up during the working week. However, another front arriving on Thursday morning looks to bring the mercury back down again on Friday.
