Cool start to Summer for Adelaide

Graeme Brittain, Saturday December 9, 2017 - 07:43 AEDT

The switch in season has seen a remarkable plunge in temperatures for South Australia's capital.

The last three days of November saw the thermometer sitting some 10 degrees above average, in contrast to the first three days of December struggling to get into the low-20's, in what has been the coolest starts to Summer for Adelaide in over 40 years in terms of maximum temperatures.

Excluding the morning of Friday 1st December, each maximum and minimum temperature recorded during the first eight days of this month have been below average. The highest the mercury has got to so far is 25 degrees on Wednesday 6th, which is over two degrees below average.

Heat is expected to build considerably as we move into next week however. By the time we get to Tuesday temperatures are expected to peak around the mid-30's, then possibly above the 40 degree mark on Wednesday. The morning of Wednesday will also feel especially uncomfortably, with temperatures holding up above the mid-20's

Take advantage of the next few days if you favour milder conditions, because some significant heat is on the way.
