Flood threat spreading across Victoria

Victoria can't catch a break from flooding rain at the moment. While dry weather is returning to the state's flooded western districts today, heavy rain will target northern and eastern areas during the next 24 hours.
A low pressure system will cause rain to spread across Victoria's northern inland and North East tonight, before shifting over the Gippsland districts on Thursday.
The rainfall accompanying this low may be heavy enough to cause both flash flooding and river flooding, with isolated rainfall totals possibly exceeding 30mm. A severe weather warning was issued today for heavy rainfall across areas east of a line from about Shepparton to Sale. Flood watches are also current to highlight the risk of river flooding in some of the state's central northern and North East catchments, along with greater Melbourne catchments, from Thursday.
The low should move out into the Tasman Sea at the end of the week allowing drier weather to return on Friday.
Looking ahead, a front will cause another burst of showers to spread across the state on the weekend. At this stage falls from this system look to be lighter, generally in the 5-15mm range.
Another low could bring a more significant round of rainfall and possibly thunderstorms to Victoria during the middle of next week. Rivers will still be in flooding by that point, so expect warnings to be updated closer to the event.
