Flooding rain continues in Queensland

Ben Domensino, Tuesday October 17, 2017 - 17:03 AEDT

Heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue to inundate parts of central Queensland during the middle of this week.

Moisture-laden onshore winds feeding an upper-level low pressure system are causing a prolonged spell of wet weather in the state's central and eastern dictricts.

Some of the notable rainfall totals as of 3pm today include:
- Upper Springbrook: 372mm since Sunday
- Fred Haigh Dam (west of Bundaberg): 243mm during the last 30 hours
- Bulburin Alert (south of Miriam Vale): 158mm during the last 6 hours

A severe weather warning was in place on Tuesday afternoon for heavy rainfall along the coast and adjacent inland between Fraser Island and Bowen. This region is expected to see the heaviest falls during Tuesday night and Wednesday, with falls likely to reach 200mm in some areas during a 24 hour period.

Flood watches and warnings have been issued for a number of catchments in eastern Queensland in response to the relentless rainfall.
