Further heavy rain for SE QLD, NE NSW

Rainfall totals from the current spell of wet weather could more
than double over the next few days as a low pressure trough
lingers over parts of northeast New South Wales, with shifting
across the border into Queensland from this afternoon.

Parts of the Northern Rivers have picked up over 200mm over the
last 48 hours, with Evans Head collecting 257mm, Yamba 224mm and
Ballina Airport 213mm as of 09:00 am this morning. All three of
these stations and surrounds have the potential to receive an
additional 150-200mm by the end of the working week, with most of
this likely to fall through Tuesday.

As the trough shifts further north through today, rain gauges in
southeast Queensland will begin to get a workout, with 150-200mm
also possible here. Coastal adjacent areas look to receive the
heaviest of the falls. This means there is a good chance some
places will exceed their average June rainfall.

The system responsible will clear southwards of the worst affected
region by Friday, as a high pressure ridge builds from the west
and dries out conditions in time for the weekend.
