Temperatures will cool down for much of the week for South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.
For much of SA, the run of cooler days will begin on Sunday. In Adelaide, temperatures will move into the mid 20's until mid-week. Further north, temperatures will also see a drop of four-to-five degrees, bringing an end to the week long run of back-to-back hot days.
VIC will also see the cooler days begin on Sunday. In the northern parts of the country the temperature drop will be very noticeable, with some places seeing a drop of eight or nine degrees. For Melbourne, Sunday will begin the period of cooler than average temperatures which will span much of this week. The coldest day likely to be on Tuesday, with a forecast top of only 19 degrees, which is seven degrees below the February average.
In NSW, the heat will continue to build today and on Sunday. Much of the state will see temperatures peak on Sunday, with Monday likely to be much more comfortable. White Cliffs has exceeded 38 degrees each day since last Sunday, by Monday the forecast maximum is only 33 degrees and it is likely to stay cool for the following few days. Western parts of Sydney will see the mercury hover around 37 degrees for Valentine's day, with days returning to near-average until the end of the working week.
The drop in temperatures is due to a strong front that swept over TAS, leaving a cool airmass in its wake. This colder air will combine with cooler onshore winds, effectively keeping a lid on the heat for much of this week throughout the southeast.
