Heavy rain continuing over western Tasmania

Parts of Western Tasmania have copped a soaking over the past few days as frontal activity becomes more frequent and pronounced.
Due to the exposure to the elements, the West Coast and elevated areas have been of particular interest, with Mt Read collecting 105mm to 9am today, plus another 25mm since 9am. Lake Margaret picked up 68mm, followed closely by South Queenstown which received 64mm to 9am.
With all but one day this month delivering rain, Strahan has already exceeded the average amount of rainfall for the month of May, with 172mm so far. Meanwhile, Liawenee has already collected 165% of its monthly average.
This steady frontal activity is generally as a result of the long wave trough shifting east and becoming more focused over southeastern Australia as opposed to being positioned over the Bight as it was in recent days.
Conditions are likely to remain wet, windy and cool over much of Tasmania, particularly in the west which is fitting for Friday 13th. In fact, the persistent frontal activity is expected to maintain poor conditions for the next week at least, with the potential for over 200mm to collect in the next seven days, most likely over southwestern parts.
