Hobart caught in a chilly, wet rut

Summer heat seems to have been sapped from the Apple Isle by a persistent southerly airflow, bringing showers, powerful surf and cold air.

Hobart has endured its coldest run of days since the start of summer, only reaching 15 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday. Cloud cover has taken over the city today, with a few light showers in the area. Showers are set to increase this evening, tending to rain tomorrow, making for further bleak weather.

The other features focussing on southern and eastern TAS are the gusty winds and the powerful swell. Large waves have been battering the often protected east coast today and will continue tomorrow with the low remaining nearby. Gusty winds have become incessant due to the large system, making the cooler than usual weather feel another couple of degrees colder than the mercury suggests.

On Sunday the low will move away from TAS and towards New Zealand, allowing winds, waves, rain and seas to ease. A high will then slowly move across the state, bringing generally sunny weather from Thursday. On the weekend the temperature will be heading well into the 20's across most of the state, giving people faith that summer is not finished in the Apple Isle.
