Lighting up southwest WA

Whilst northern parts of Western Australia have seen their fair share of thunderstorms recently, southwestern and southern parts of the state have seen far fewer.

That changed yesterday and overnight into this morning however as an area of storms associated with a low pressure trough moved east across the southern half of the state.

Thunderstorms started up around mid afternoon local time just inland of Kalbarri and Geraldton, before the system matured whilst moving southwest towards Merredin. By the early hours of the morning, local time, storms had formed a line from just north of Kalgoorlie to around 100 kilometres southwest of Norseman.

Storms have now eased, but remain a risk to spark up again over a similar area later today.
