Parts of Queensland wake under a veil of fog.

Guy Dixon, Friday July 3, 2015 - 16:06 AEST

Following a strong cold front which swept over southeastern parts of the nation yesterday, cool air settled under clear skies over parts of the sunshine state.

Oakey Aero fared the worst with a thick blanket of fog limiting visibility to less than 50 metres. Elsewhere, Toowoomba struggled to peer further than 250 metres, while Townsville's visibility dipped to 500 metres.

South/southeasterly winds have been filtering over moisture over Queensland over the past few days which supplied the necessary ingredients for fog to develop. As this moist air condensed with cool air in the early hours of this morning, patches of thick fog lingered, undisturbed by calm winds.

In the coming days, the risk of fog will remain, although not as severe. The airmass will gradually become more mild over the weekend, while the moisture content will also lessen.
