Perth's run of cold mornings coming to end

Perth has just had its coldest pair of mornings this late in the season in eight years but the next few are looking progressively warmer.

The Western Australian capital chilled to 2.8 degrees this morning, a day after getting as cold as 3.2 degrees, more than five degrees below the August average.

The last time the city had two colder pairs of mornings this late in the season was in 2010. On the 25th and 26th of August that year it dipped to 3.2 and 2.3 degrees respectively.

An intense cold front passed through during Thursday then a high pressure system rapidly cleared skies with drying gentle winds.

A large part of southern WA has been four-to-eight degrees below average during the past few mornings. It got as cold as -1.4 degrees at Laverton in the Goldfields, -1.1 degrees at Southern Cross in the Central Wheat Belt and -0.1 of a degree at both Newdegate and Dwellingup in the Great Southern.

Looking ahead, each day will progressively start warmer as wind turns more northerly and gains strength ahead of another cold front. Tuesday morning should be as much as eight-to-13 degrees warmer than this morning in some areas.
