Perth's wettest month in 14 years

Perth is now having its wettest calendar month in 14 years, after a night of steady rain in the city.
Perth received 21.6mm of rain during the 24 hours to 9am on Thursday, most of which fell during Wednesday night. This brought the city's running total for June to 202mm, making this their wettest month since June 2005 (251mm).

The long-term average rainfall during June is about 130mm in Perth, although the city has been experiencing an overall decline in wintertime rain during recent decades. This background drying trend makes this month's double-century even more impressive.
The wettest month on record at Perth's current Metro weather station, which has data back to 1993, was 278.6mm in July 1995. The highest monthly total recorded at the old Perth Regional Office site, which rain from 1876 to 1992, was 476.1mm during June 1945.
Dry weather will return to Perth on Friday, although a cold front may bring more showers this weekend.
