QLD braces for some very wet weather

While it's sunshine and blue skies today, some very wet weather is on its way for parts of Queensland.

From Thursday, things will take a turn for the worse, or better if you have been waiting for rain. A low pressure trough lying over inland QLD and one along the coast will begin to deepen and gain further instability.

Falls will stretch out along the coast, from the NSW border and as far north as Mackay. Widespread showers around 20-40mm are likely up and down the coast and even just west of Roma and St George. Heavier falls are likely for the Southeast Coast, particularly south of Maroochydore, where the heaviest falls are likely.

Friday is also going to be a particularly wet one. The trough will deepen further, with a low pressure system forming in the south during the afternoon and evening. This low will cause strong easterly winds along the coast, south from about Bundaberg. For the Southeast Coast and parts of the Darling Downs, falls in the region of 50-150mm are possible. Some parts will see more than 200mm from Wednesday to Saturday morning. Therefore gutters, lakes, dams, rivers and stormwater drains are likely to become overloaded, particularly on Friday. By the weekend, conditions will become more settled, and the sun will pop out for the first time in a few days as showers contract southeastwards then clear.
