Snow season update

While Australia's natural snow depth only increased slightly over the last week, the ski slopes have been enjoying ideal snowmaking conditions.

Snowy Hydro's weekly snow depth measurement at Spencers Creek in NSW revealed a base of 37.1cm on Tuesday. This was 5cm higher than last week.

Despite the increase, Tuesday's depth was less than half of the 76.4cm that was measured at Spencers Creek on the same date last year. It's also down from 71.3cm two weeks ago.

While there hasn't been much natural snow in the last week, Australia's ski resorts have been able to make artificial snow amid a string of freezing nights.

Temperatures have dropped below zero degrees at Thredbo Top Station since last Thursday night. This morning. The mercury hit -12 degrees at Perisher Valley, which was Australia's lowest June temperature in eight years.

Artificial snowmaking will continue at the resorts into next week as the run of freezing nights and sunny days continues into late June.
