The benefits of sunshine in western NSW

Some sun-bathed western New South Wales residents would have had no idea they were bathing in temperatures as much as 10 degrees higher than just down the road on Sunday afternoon.
Low cloud hung around all day over parts of the central-west and south-west, leading to the coldest day in several years in some towns.
Cobar only reached 10 degrees, six degrees below average and its coldest day in four years. Only 160km to the north, Bourke residents were lapping up 19-degree warmth, right on average for this time of year.
Trangie and Condobolin had their coldest day in three years, only warming to 10.6 and 9.7 degrees respectively. Less than 150km from Trangie, sunshine allowed Coonabarabran to warm to a comfortable 19 degrees, three degrees above average.
And only 125km from a sunny and mild Coonabarabran, Dubbo was eight degrees colder under a cover of gloomy low cloud.
It has been sunglasses and rolled-up sleeves compared to coats and scarves.
The low cloud resulted from a few days of southerly winds bringing in a bit of moisture. It then hung around under an area of high pressure which didn't allow the air to mix very much.
The cloud also covered much of the Riverina but is started to shift to the west which may lead to a cold day over western parts of the Riverina and in the Lower Western. Griffith, Hillston, Ivanhoe and Broken Hill are only forecast to reach a maximum of 12 degrees on Monday, about five degrees below average.
