South Australia has experienced another bout of stormy and wet weather.
In the 24 hours till 9am, Arkaroola had its heaviest September rain since 1981 with 29mm falling. Marree Airport and Leigh Creek Airport received their heaviest September rainfall in 6 years, with 23mm and 15mm respectively. Many other locations from the West Coast to the Mount Lofty Ranges picked up 10-15mm of rain.
There were also over 5000 Lightning strikes, mostly in the far north, near Lake Eyre.
These storms were due to a cold front and trough which created a low pressure system over the state.
Systems similar to these have meant that 90% of SA has already exceeded its average monthly rainfall.
Since then, a high pressure ridge has been taking over. However, an almost identical rain-and-storm system will arrive this Tuesday.
The bulk of ths Tuesday's rain will fall east of the ranges, with 15-30mm likely to fall in the Riverland.
However, the saturated Mount Lofty Ranges should less than 10mm, not enough to lead to much of an increase in flooding. Mount Lofty is having its wettest year to date since 1973 (1083mm so far) and needs 15mm by Wednesday to make it the wettest year to date since 1956.
