Thunderstorms brought a spectacular display on Sunday, with more on the cards for New South Wales and Queensland.
Storms began brewing along the border of NSW and QLD on Sunday afternoon, intensifying rapidly, with severe storm warnings issued for both states.
These storms brought reports of large hail at Inglewood, and areas of heavy rain leading to flash flooding. Most places under the storm path saw 10-20 mm land in the bucket, which is very welcome in the lead up to summer, particularly in the midst of an El Nino.
At Glen Innes, the rain came down thick and fast, with 7 mm falling in 10 minutes. This now brings the monthly rain total to 123 mm, which is more than September and October combined.
As well as bringing rain, gusty winds and hail, these storms were lightning intensive, with nearly 320,000 strikes recorded within a 200 km radius of the border town of Texas.
The main focus of the storm activity will shift east today, with southeast QLD and the northern NSWâ??s coast and Hinterland in the firing line. Storms are a risk again on Tuesday but are likely to be much more isolated. Thundery activity will take a break on Wednesday, but will be back from Thursday and become more widespread again on Friday and over the weekend.
