Unseasonably warm conditions continuing for QLD

Ben McBurney, Sunday July 26, 2015 - 15:47 AEST

Temperatures have remained unusually warm across Queensland into this weekend, with daytime temperatures soaring up to eight degrees above average.

Across the central and northern inland temperatures in the low-to-mid 30s have been commonplace, which is more typical of late August or September.

Today, Emerald is experiencing its warmest July day since at least 1991, nudging 31 degrees, while Gladstone hasn't seen a warmer July day since 2009 reaching around 28 degrees.

The state's capital has also been unusually warm, reaching 25 degrees today and around 24 degrees the last two days.

The cause of the warmth has been a slow-moving low pressure trough dragging warm air that had built up across the nation's northwest, with no cold front to flush it away.

However, with a cold front set to sweep through on Monday, temperatures will return closer to average across the next week.
