Valentine's Day should turn up the heat

For those seeking the perfect weather for the perfect date this Valentine's weekend, Australian capital cities seem sure to share the love!

Brisbane and Darwin will be hot and steamy as per usual, expecting a maximum temperature into the low 30s on both days. Darwin could get afternoon and evening storms on both Saturday and Sunday, so perhaps a restaurant might be more successful than a picnic for couples there.

For those seeking a romantic dinner on Saturday night, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney will definitely deliver. Clear skies and light winds will make for a good sunset and al fresco dining. The mercury is set to reach at least 30 degrees in each of these cities and remain warm into the evening, so for those keen to dress up, maybe leave a top button undone, for playing it cool.

Adelaide will also be pleasant on Saturday, but a gusty change should arrive during the afternoon or early evening, with a bit of cloud, so staying out late might not be a good option.

Valentine's Day itself will be more mild and windy than Saturday for Adelaide, Melbourne and Hobart, and the evening temperature will be a bit nippy. We recommend staying home and watching a soppy movie. Sydney, though, will be perfect for a daytime picnic in the shade, before getting a southerly change later in the afternoon.

The clear romantic date capital will be Perth this weekend. Daytime maximum temperatures are forecast to reach 32 or 33 degrees, and humidity will be low, creating exceptional evening dinner conditions, as well as a sunset over the ocean. Good luck!

07:00 AEST After an emotional mid-year cut at the Margaret River Pro surf competition in Western Australia last week, surfers that fell below the cut line, along with up-and-coming talent, will be battling it out on the Gold Coast from this weekend onwards. The first stop on the Challenger Series (the lesser format of the Championship Tour) will take place along the Gold Coast’s premier surf point breaks, starting this morning and running to Saturday May 4th.
