Warm night for South Australia

Sam Brown, Saturday September 12, 2020 - 14:17 AEST

A large swathe of South Australia had a well above average night on Friday night due to warmth being drawn southward by a broad low pressure trough, while the system also brought clouds and the odd shower in the far south.

Pukatja in the Northwest Pastoral district of South Australia had its warmest September night last night reaching 21 degrees, over 10 degrees above the September average of 10.6 degrees and the warmest night since April. Every night so far this month has been above average at the town.

Loxton in the Riverland district also crept up to over 9 degrees above the September average minimum temperature of 6.4 degrees. Adelaide missed the brunt of the warmth but still reached 5.7 degrees above average at 14.9 degrees.

High pressure will build in the wake of the system, with a cooler airmass leading to a cooler night overnight into Sunday for much of the state.
