Warragamba's Water Woes

Sydney's Warragamba Dam currently has its lowest volume of available water in about eight years. The Dam is currently just shy of 70% full, which is around a 22% drop from last year.

The storage lake at Warragamba Dam is four times larger than Sydney Harbour, supplying water for more than five million people around Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

Reduced water levels in the Warragamba Dam come as New South Wales is experiencing widespread drought, the NSW Department of Primary Industries indicates that as of today 99.9% of NSW is either in drought or drought affected. Most of the surrounding region is currently experiencing a greater than or equal to one-in-twenty-year rainfall deficiency, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Looking ahead, it seems that the dry conditions are likely to continue. Inland New South Wales is most likely going to see below median rainfall for August and September. It would seem that Warragamba's water woes will continue.
