Welcome widespread warm spell

Guy Dixon, Monday August 15, 2016 - 14:20 AEST

Multiple states are enjoying an unseasonable warm spell, with some of the warmest conditions for this time of the year in five years.

Starting with the nation's capital, Canberra and surrounds are amid a six day warm spell, where if the maximum temperature continues to exceed 15 degrees, it would make it the warmest six day run this early in August in five years.

It is the same story in Melbourne following yesterday's balmy 19 degree day which was the warmest day so far this month. We are staring down the barrel of five more consecutive days over 15 degrees which, similarly to Canberra would make it the warmest six-day run this early in August since 2011.

From Tuesday, Sydney and much of the Basin is in for a four-day spell of temperatures over 22 degrees which would go down as the warmest four-day August streak in five years.

Finally, Adelaide has managed its required temperature of 20 degrees today, and is forecast to do so until Thursday, which would make it the warmest four-day spell this early in August in five years.

A brisk cold front will bring an abrupt end to this welcome warm weather as we expect to see a 4-8 degree drop from one day to the next.
