A cold front will provide a light snow top up on Sunday and Monday, after good snowmaking conditions in the nights before then. Then we have an east coast low, with further snow depending on where that low moves.

Significant cold outbreak spreading across the southeast early to mid week, with more than 25mm of rain in some parts, and 30 to 70 cm of snow in the alps.

Over the course of the next week we have significant rain across much of southern Australia. The second major rain system in the west in a week is affecting those parts today and across much of the weekend. Then the focus shifts to the southeast. The first system slides across the southeast later Sunday and on Monday. The second pushes in from the west on Tuesday into Wednesday, and there are falls that linger through to Thursday. Looking further ahead, and the Negative Indian Ocean Dipole is showing new signs of development, set to enhance southern Australia's rain in winter and spring.

There is rain coming for the alps... but there is a fabulous amount of snow once we've gotten through the first part.

The next major weather system arrives in alpine areas on Monday to Wednesday or Thursday. It will not begin well for the alps. The atmosphere warms too much in the days prior, so the beginning of this is most definitely rain. And the colder air may not arrive until we've had a lot of that rain.
