In this series I'll take you through the drivers of our weather, highlighting any changes over time and things to watch out for (generally every Friday).It covers weather elements like temperature and rainfall, and how they are driven by moisture from the Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as bursts of energy from low pressure (SAM and MJO).

High pressure has moved out of the way, letting a series of disturbances move across the south. Some bring bitter air, others have decent rain.

Wave after wave of snow is likely from Wednesday through to the weekend, with the coldest air later Friday into Saturday. A metre of snow for many alpine resorts, and some snow to low levels early in the weekend.

High pressure has vanished, letting wet weather system barrel across the southeast this week. These bring rain, with widespread falls of 10 to 50 mm. It turns cold from about Wednesday, and bitterly cold at the end of the week.

A weather pattern that pushes rain across southeast Queensland and much of NSW could flip next week, delivering rain to the southeast instead.
