Understanding the Weather

Why is wind not always included in the forecast?

Wind will almost always be included in the forecast for today and tomorrow. However, often, if the winds are expected to be light and variable, the forecast may just read “Light winds” with no direction mentioned. Wind is often not included in forecasts beyond tomorrow because the speed and direction are still not certain. However, marine forecasts will always contain wind speed and direction, and most of these go out to 3 or 4 days in advance.
